Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OD005 is a small molecule drug candidate being developed by Ocular Discovery, a subsidiary of the Drug Rediscovery Group, for the treatment of ocular hypertension. As part of the Drug Rediscovery Group's model of repurposing existing FDA-approved medications for new therapeutic indications, OD005 is a proprietary topical formulation of a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor, likely sildenafil. The drug is designed to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) by enhancing the nitric oxide-cGMP signaling pathway, which facilitates aqueous humor outflow through the trabecular meshwork. OD005 is intended to provide a novel mechanism of action for patients with ocular hypertension or glaucoma who do not respond adequately to current standard-of-care treatments.
