Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oderox is an oral iron chelator containing the active ingredient deferasirox, marketed by AJM Pharma. It is a small molecule tridentate iron chelator designed to selectively bind ferric iron (Fe3+) with high affinity in a 2:1 ratio, forming stable complexes that are subsequently eliminated from the body via the kidneys and feces. The drug is indicated for the treatment of chronic iron overload requiring chelation therapy, a condition frequently seen in patients with transfusion-dependent anemias such as thalassemia or sickle cell disease. By binding trivalent ferric iron and promoting its excretion, Oderox helps prevent organ damage associated with iron toxicity. It is typically administered orally once daily on an empty stomach.
