Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Odiglim-MP2 is a fixed-dose combination tablet developed by Zinnia Life Sciences for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains three active antidiabetic agents: glimepiride (2 mg), metformin hydrochloride (500 mg) in an extended-release formulation, and pioglitazone (15 mg). Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea that stimulates insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells by binding to the sulfonylurea receptor 1 (SUR1) subunit of ATP-sensitive potassium channels. Metformin is a biguanide that reduces hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, primarily through the transient inhibition of mitochondrial complex I and subsequent activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). Pioglitazone is a thiazolidinedione that acts as a selective agonist for peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-gamma), enhancing insulin sensitivity in target tissues such as adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, and the liver. Together, these three components provide complementary mechanisms of action to achieve robust glycemic control in patients whose blood glucose is not adequately managed by monotherapy or dual therapy.
