Odontocide is a patented endodontic intracanal dressing developed by Australian Dental Manufacturing (ADM). It is a combination product consisting of 20% calcium hydroxide and 7% ibuprofen. The calcium hydroxide component achieves a high pH (over 12), which provides a potent antibacterial effect against bacteria and biofilms within the root canal system. The ibuprofen component acts as a non-selective cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor, functioning as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) to reduce post-operative sensitivity and interappointment pain. The product is typically used as a temporary dressing during endodontic treatment for patients suffering from apical periodontitis or pulpal inflammation. It is TGA-certified in Australia and supplied as a paste in an 8-gram tube.
