Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ofloxacin + povidone-iodine is a combination medication that pairs a fluoroquinolone antibiotic (ofloxacin) with an antiseptic agent (povidone-iodine). This combination leverages the complementary antimicrobial mechanisms of both components to provide enhanced effectiveness against a broad spectrum of microorganisms. Ofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing DNA replication, while povidone-iodine acts as an antiseptic through the release of free iodine that disrupts microbial cell membranes and inactivates essential cellular components.
