Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oflast-T is a veterinary combination drug containing the fluoroquinolone antibiotic ofloxacin and the nitroimidazole antiprotozoal/antibacterial agent tinidazole. It is formulated as an oral bolus for livestock and poultry. Ofloxacin acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, thereby halting DNA replication and transcription. Tinidazole is a prodrug that undergoes intracellular reduction in anaerobic environments to form reactive nitroso radicals, which directly bind to and damage microbial DNA, leading to cell death. Together, this combination provides broad-spectrum efficacy against mixed bacterial and protozoal infections in veterinary medicine.
