Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oftalmil is an approved ophthalmic solution developed and marketed by Bruschettini. It is a fixed-dose combination of naphazoline hydrochloride, a sympathomimetic vasoconstrictor, and zinc phenolsulfonate (also known as zinc sulfophenate), an astringent and antiseptic agent. Oftalmil is indicated for the treatment of alterations of the ocular surface, specifically to relieve eye redness, irritation, congestion, the sensation of a foreign body, and eyelid heaviness. Naphazoline acts as an agonist on alpha-adrenergic receptors to induce vasoconstriction of conjunctival blood vessels, thereby reducing congestion and redness. Zinc phenolsulfonate provides local astringent and mild antiseptic properties to soothe the ocular surface.
