Overview
Ogi-Keishi-Gomotsu-To-Ka-Kojin (OKGK) is a Japanese traditional Kampo medicine derived from the classical formula Ogi-Keishi-Gomotsu-To with the addition of Kojin (Red Ginseng). It is primarily recognized for its antihyperlipidemic properties, particularly in models of secondary hyperlipidemia. The medicine's mechanism of action involves the restoration and enhancement of lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity in both postheparin plasma and cardiac tissue. By increasing LPL activity, OKGK promotes the catabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins, including chylomicrons and very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), effectively lowering elevated serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
