Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ojeoksan is a **traditional multi-herbal formula** used primarily in East Asian medicine, especially in Korea. It consists of either 15 or 17 herbal ingredients depending on the formulation[1][2][3]. Ojeoksan is most commonly used as a complementary and alternative medicine for **pain (including visceral, somatic, neuropathic, and low back pain)**, gastrointestinal problems, cardiovascular complaints, depression, and symptoms associated with colds[1][3][9]. The main pharmacological activities demonstrated in preclinical and clinical research include anti-inflammatory, analgesic, immunoregulatory, anti-pyretic, anti-metastatic, anti-atherosclerotic (inhibition of vascular smooth muscle proliferation/migration), and sedative effects[1][3]. Mechanistically, Ojeoksan inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6), prostaglandin E2, ROS production, nuclear translocation of NF-kB, metalloproteinases (MMP-2/-9), and may modulate Erk signaling and matrix remodeling[1][3].
