Overview
OKG-0301 is a topical ophthalmic antiviral drug developed by Okogen for the treatment of acute adenoviral conjunctivitis (viral pink eye). The active pharmaceutical ingredient is ranpirnase, a potent ribonuclease (RNase) originally derived from the Northern Leopard Frog. OKG-0301 functions intracellularly through multiple mechanisms to degrade viral RNA, thereby halting viral replication and reducing associated inflammation. The drug has completed a Phase 2 clinical trial known as the RUBY trial, which demonstrated that OKG-0301 was safe, well-tolerated, and showed statistically significant, dose-responsive antiviral activity in accelerating viral clearance. Currently, there are no approved therapies for adenoviral conjunctivitis, representing a significant unmet medical need affecting millions of patients annually.
