Overview

OKSI is a nutraceutical combination supplement consisting of extracts from mangosteen (*Garcinia mangostana*) peel and tomato (*Solanum lycopersicum*). Developed by researchers at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), it is specifically designed to mitigate exercise-induced oxidative stress, particularly in sedentary individuals. The formulation leverages the antioxidant properties of xanthones (such as alpha-mangostin) found in mangosteen and lycopene found in tomatoes. These bioactive compounds function by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and enhancing the activity of endogenous antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD). Clinical evaluation in randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials has demonstrated its ability to reduce markers of lipid peroxidation, such as malondialdehyde (MDA), following physical exertion.
