Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oktus is an oral combination syrup formulated for the treatment of productive (wet) coughs associated with bronchopulmonary disorders, such as bronchitis, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and chest congestion. It contains three active pharmaceutical ingredients: ambroxol (a mucolytic agent), guaifenesin (an expectorant), and terbutaline (a bronchodilator). Ambroxol works by thinning and loosening thick mucus in the respiratory tract, making it less viscous. Guaifenesin increases the volume of respiratory tract secretions and reduces the stickiness of mucus, facilitating its clearance. Terbutaline selectively stimulates beta-2 adrenergic receptors on bronchial smooth muscle cells, leading to bronchodilation and improved airflow. Together, these components work synergistically to relieve chest congestion, ease breathing, and alleviate cough symptoms.
