Overview

Oleiferoside A is an oleanane-type triterpenoid saponin isolated from the roots of *Camellia oleifera* (the tea-oil tree). Its chemical structure is characterized by an oleanane-type aglycone with specific sugar moieties attached at the C-3 position. Research into oleiferoside A has primarily focused on its potential antineoplastic properties. In vitro studies using MTT assays have demonstrated that the compound possesses moderate cytotoxic activity against various human tumor cell lines, including A549 (lung cancer), B16 (melanoma), BEL-7402 (liver cancer), and MCF-7 (breast cancer). It is one of several saponins (oleiferosides A-H) discovered in this plant species, contributing to the understanding of the bioactive constituents of *Camellia oleifera*.
