OA-Hy (oleoyl-N-hydroxylamide) is a synthetic small molecule inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), specifically targeting MMP-2 and MMP-9. It is a hydroxamic acid derivative of oleic acid. The hydroxamate group acts as a zinc-binding moiety that coordinates with the catalytic zinc ion in the active site of the MMP enzymes, thereby blocking their proteolytic activity. OA-Hy is primarily used as a research tool to investigate the role of MMPs in physiological and pathological processes, including extracellular matrix remodeling, angiogenesis, and tumor metastasis. In the context of oncology research, it has been employed to study the mechanisms of cancer cell migration and invasion, such as in endometrial cancer models where it inhibits kisspeptin-induced cell motility.
