Overview

Oleoylethanolamide (OEA) is a naturally occurring ethanolamide lipid and an endogenous peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-α) agonist. It is a monounsaturated analogue of the endocannabinoid anandamide but acts independently of the cannabinoid pathway. OEA regulates feeding behavior and body weight by stimulating satiety, promoting lipolysis, and reducing food intake. Its mechanism involves activation of PPAR-α as well as interaction with GPR119 and transient receptor potential vanilloid type 1 (TRPV1). OEA also exhibits neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and analgesic properties. It has been studied primarily for its potential in obesity management but also shows promise in neuroprotection and metabolic regulation[1][2][4][5][6].
