Oleylethanolamide (OEA) is a naturally occurring lipid and an endogenous agonist of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha (PPAR-α). It is a fatty acid ethanolamide (FAE) derived from oleic acid that plays a significant role in regulating energy homeostasis and lipid metabolism. OEA is primarily known for its ability to induce satiety and reduce food intake by activating PPAR-α in the proximal small intestine, which subsequently transmits signals to the brain via the vagus nerve. Beyond its effects on appetite and body weight, OEA has been investigated for its potential anti-inflammatory, anti-atherosclerotic, and neuroprotective properties. While it is manufactured as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) by companies like Allastir, it is also widely available as a dietary supplement and nutraceutical.
