Overview

Olfactory mucosa-derived mesenchymal stem cell lysate (OM-MSC lysate) is an experimental cell-free biologic therapy derived from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) harvested from the olfactory mucosa of the nasal cavity. The lysate is produced by subjecting these cells to repeated freeze-thaw cycles, which releases intracellular components including anti-inflammatory cytokines (such as IL-10 and TGF-β), growth factors, and various signaling molecules. This approach aims to harness the therapeutic paracrine effects of MSCs without the risks associated with live cell transplantation, such as tumorigenicity, immunogenicity, or vascular occlusion. Preclinical research has primarily focused on its immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties, specifically demonstrating efficacy in mouse models of sepsis-induced acute liver injury (ALI) by reducing pro-inflammatory cytokine levels and promoting tissue recovery.
