Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oliceft is a brand of antibiotic products marketed by Makshi Healthcare, primarily featuring the third-generation cephalosporin **ceftriaxone**. The product line includes Oliceft-1000, which contains ceftriaxone sodium, and Oliceft-S, a fixed-dose combination of ceftriaxone and the beta-lactamase inhibitor **sulbactam**. Ceftriaxone exerts its bactericidal effect by binding to and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) involved in bacterial cell wall synthesis, which leads to cell lysis and death. The addition of sulbactam in the Oliceft-S formulation protects ceftriaxone from degradation by certain beta-lactamase enzymes, thereby extending its spectrum of activity against resistant bacterial strains. These medications are indicated for the treatment of various serious systemic infections, including lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, meningitis, and sepsis.
