oligo-fucoidan

Oligo-fucoidan is a low-molecular-weight form of fucoidan, a complex sulfated polysaccharide primarily extracted from brown seaweed such as *Sargassum hemiphyllum*. Unlike high-molecular-weight fucoidan, the oligo form is characterized by enhanced bioavailability and solubility, making it more suitable for therapeutic applications. It exerts multi-targeted anti-tumor effects by inhibiting angiogenesis through the downregulation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), suppressing tumor cell migration and invasion via the HGF/c-Met pathway, and modulating the transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) signaling cascade. Additionally, oligo-fucoidan has been shown to enhance immune surveillance by activating natural killer (NK) cells and promoting a Th1-polarized immune response. It is primarily investigated as an adjuvant therapy in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and other solid tumors to improve clinical outcomes and reduce treatment-related toxicity.
