Overview
Oligofer Fol is an oral solution combination of iron proteinsuccinate and calcium folinate pentahydrate, developed and marketed by ITF İlaç Sanayi ve Ticaret (the Turkish subsidiary of Italfarmaco). Iron proteinsuccinate is a succinylated iron-protein complex designed to protect the gastric mucosa by remaining insoluble in the stomach's acidic environment, subsequently dissolving and releasing iron in the alkaline environment of the duodenum for absorption. Calcium folinate provides folinic acid, a reduced form of folate that does not require the action of dihydrofolate reductase for activation. The product is indicated for the prevention and treatment of iron and folate deficiency anemias, particularly during pregnancy, the postpartum period, and lactation.
