Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Olimel N12 is a high-protein, multi-chamber parenteral nutrition (PN) emulsion developed by Baxter. It is specifically formulated to meet the high protein requirements of critically ill patients or those with protein-energy wasting, such as patients undergoing hemodialysis. The product is delivered in a triple-chamber bag containing amino acids with electrolytes, a glucose solution with calcium, and a lipid emulsion consisting of a mixture of refined olive oil and soybean oil. The "N12" designation indicates a nitrogen content of approximately 12 grams per liter, providing a high amino acid concentration (76 g/L) relative to its energy content, which helps in maintaining lean tissue mass and supporting recovery in hypercatabolic states.
