Overview

Olive refers to products derived from the olive tree (Olea europaea), primarily olive oil and olive leaf tea, which are studied for their various health benefits. Olive oil, particularly extra virgin olive oil, is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) like oleic acid, and phenolic compounds such as oleocanthal and oleuropein. These components are associated with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory properties. Olive oil is often incorporated into dietary patterns like the Mediterranean diet and has been investigated for its effects on cardiovascular health, lipid profiles, insulin sensitivity, and cognitive function. Olive leaf tea, also rich in polyphenols, is studied for its immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, hypoglycemic, antihypertensive, antimicrobial, and anti-atherosclerotic effects. These products are considered dietary supplements or nutraceuticals due to their nutritional value and potential therapeutic applications.
