Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Olive pollen allergen immunotherapy preparation (marketed as AVANZ Olive) is an allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) developed by ALK-Abelló (and its subsidiary ALK-Scherax Arzneimittel) to induce immunological tolerance to olive (*Olea europaea*) pollen allergens in sensitized patients. Formulated as a standardized allergen extract adsorbed on aluminium hydroxide, it is administered subcutaneously to treat olive pollen allergy, allergic rhinitis, and associated allergic rhinoconjunctivitis. The therapy works by modulating the immune system's type 2 inflammatory response, shifting the immune profile toward tolerance through the induction of regulatory T (Treg) cells and allergen-specific IgG4 antibodies, thereby reducing allergic symptoms and immediate skin reactivity upon allergen exposure.
