Overview

Olmedip is a fixed-dose combination antihypertensive medication containing amlodipine (as besilate), a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, and olmesartan medoxomil, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). Developed and manufactured by Ibn Sina Pharmaceuticals, it is approved for the treatment of hypertension, either as initial therapy or in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy. Amlodipine acts as a peripheral arterial vasodilator by inhibiting calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle, thereby reducing peripheral vascular resistance. Olmesartan medoxomil is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed to olmesartan, which selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion. Together, these complementary mechanisms provide synergistic blood pressure reduction.
