Overview
OJP-2028 is a small molecule angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARB) developed by CJ CheilJedang (now HK inno.N) for the treatment of essential hypertension. It is a prodrug that is rapidly hydrolyzed to its active metabolite, olmesartan, which selectively and competitively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland. This blockade inhibits the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II, leading to a reduction in peripheral vascular resistance and a decrease in blood pressure. OJP-2028 has been evaluated in clinical trials in South Korea and is marketed under the brand name Omapro.
