Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Olmesartan medoxomil + hydrochlorothiazide is a fixed-dose combination medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It combines two active ingredients: - Olmesartan medoxomil, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), which works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the Angiotensin II receptor type 1 (AT1) in vascular smooth muscle. This action leads to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. - Hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic that lowers blood pressure by increasing renal excretion of sodium and water. This combination is indicated for patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with olmesartan alone. The drug reduces cardiovascular risks associated with hypertension such as stroke and heart attack. It is administered orally[1][2][5][6].
