Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ologen refers to two distinct products in ophthalmology: 1. **Ologen Collagen Matrix** is a biodegradable, porous collagen implant used as a wound healing modulator in glaucoma surgeries. It acts as a scaffold for fibroblast cells, promoting organized tissue regeneration and reducing postoperative scarring. The matrix is primarily composed of porcine-derived atelocollagen and is indicated as an adjunct in trabeculectomy, Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) implantation, Xen Gel Stent procedures, and bleb revisions to improve surgical outcomes by minimizing fibrosis. Clinical studies have shown that Ologen can achieve intraocular pressure (IOP) control comparable to mitomycin-C (MMC), with an excellent safety profile and reduced need for postoperative interventions[3][5][6]. 2. **Ologen DS** is also used as a brand name for olopatadine hydrochloride sterile eye drops (0.2%), which are antihistaminic medications indicated for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis symptoms such as itching, redness, swelling, and watery eyes[1][4][7][8]. Olopatadine works by selectively antagonizing histamine H₁ receptors on conjunctival cells.
