Ologen-6

Ologen-6 is a specific model of the Ologen biodegradable collagen matrix (BCM), a porous surgical implant used in ophthalmic procedures to treat refractory glaucoma. Developed by Aeon Astra, it is composed of a cross-linked porcine Type I collagen and glycosaminoglycan (GAG) scaffold. The matrix is designed to be implanted during glaucoma filtration surgery (such as trabeculectomy) or in combination with glaucoma drainage devices (like the Ahmed valve) to modulate the wound-healing process. Its highly porous, three-dimensional structure guides fibroblast migration and collagen deposition in a random orientation, which prevents the formation of dense, organized scar tissue (fibrosis) that could otherwise lead to surgical failure. Ologen-6 is characterized by its specific enzymatic degradation rate and structural morphology, which are optimized to maintain intraocular pressure (IOP) by ensuring the long-term patency of the drainage site.
