Overview

Olpadronate is a bisphosphonate compound structurally and mechanistically related to alendronate and other drugs in this class. It acts primarily as an inhibitor of osteoclast-mediated bone resorption and is investigated for the treatment of conditions involving excessive bone turnover such as osteoporosis and Paget's disease. Its mechanism involves inhibition of key enzymes in the mevalonate pathway in osteoclasts, leading to decreased bone resorption. Olpadronate is not widely marketed in most countries and has primarily been investigated or used in select regions such as Argentina.
