Olumacostat glasaretil is a small molecule inhibitor of acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase (ACC), the enzyme responsible for the first, rate-limiting step in de novo fatty acid synthesis. By inhibiting ACC, olumacostat glasaretil reduces lipid synthesis in sebocytes and targets sebum production following topical application. It was developed primarily for the treatment of acne vulgaris, where excessive sebum production contributes to disease pathogenesis. Clinical trials have shown that topical application can reduce both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions with a favorable safety profile[1][3][6].
