Overview

OM101 (also known as OM-101) is a small molecule inhibitor targeting the transforming growth factor-β-activated kinase 1 (TAK1) subfamily. Developed by researchers at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, it is primarily investigated for the treatment of proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR), a serious complication of retinal detachment. By inhibiting the TAK1 pathway, OM101 aims to decrease the fibrotic response and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) associated with PVR, thereby reducing the incidence of retinal detachment while preserving normal retinal architecture. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its potential efficacy and safety in ocular models, suggesting it may prevent the progression of fibrotic eye diseases.
