Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Omalin** is a high-concentration oral iron solution (800 mg/15 ml, delivering 40 mg elemental iron per vial) formulated as iron conjugated with N-aspartyl-casein (Fe-Asp) to improve gastrointestinal tolerability compared to traditional iron salts. It replenishes iron stores depleted due to insufficient intake, malabsorption, blood loss, or increased demands (e.g., pregnancy), enabling hemoglobin synthesis in red blood cells for oxygen transport, supporting myoglobin, cytochromes for energy production, and DNA processes. Primarily indicated for treatment and prevention of iron deficiency anemia, it is developed and manufactured by Uni-Pharma in Greece as a single-dose vial preparation best taken on an empty stomach with vitamin C to enhance absorption, though common GI side effects like nausea, constipation, and epigastric pain may occur; it carries a boxed warning for pediatric overdose toxicity.
