Overview

This therapeutic regimen is a combination of the anti-IgE monoclonal antibody omalizumab and a mite allergen extract (specifically house dust mite preparations such as Antergen or Alutard) administered via subcutaneous injection. In this protocol, omalizumab is used as a pre-treatment to reduce the risk of systemic allergic reactions and improve the tolerability of the subsequent allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT). The mite allergen extract is then used to induce immunological tolerance in patients with bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis who are sensitized to house dust mites. This specific intervention is being evaluated in a prospective observational study led by Wenjing Zhou to assess its impact on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of children and their caregivers compared to standard pharmacological treatments.
