Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ombitasvir is a direct acting antiviral agent used in combination with other antiviral agents for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. It is an inhibitor of the HCV nonstructural protein 5A (NS5A), which is essential for viral replication and assembly. Ombitasvir does not act as monotherapy but is part of fixed-dose combinations, most notably with paritaprevir and ritonavir (Technivie) or with paritaprevir, ritonavir, and dasabuvir (Viekira Pak). These regimens are indicated primarily for HCV genotypes 1 and 4. Ombitasvir-based therapies have demonstrated high rates of sustained virologic response (SVR), minimal side effects compared to older interferon-based regimens, and significant long-term health benefits including reduced liver-related damage[1][5][6].
