Overview

OMED-1 is a first-in-class biologic, specifically a neutralizing monoclonal antibody, developed by Onena Medicines. It is designed to target and neutralize **LEFTY1** and **LEFTY2** (Left-right determination factor 1 and 2), which are members of the TGF-beta superfamily. While these proteins are traditionally known for their roles as Nodal antagonists during embryonic development, Onena Medicines identifies them as "Onenins"—secreted growth factors that are co-opted by cancer cells to promote cancer stemness, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and resistance to standard-of-care therapies. By inhibiting LEFTY1/2 signaling, OMED-1 aims to deplete cancer stem cell populations and sensitize tumors to treatment. The program is currently in IND-enabling studies for the treatment of colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and glioblastoma.
