A combination of omega-3 fatty acids (primarily eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)) and aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid). This combination has been studied for its effects on cardiovascular disease prevention and other conditions. Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids that have anti-inflammatory properties. Aspirin is a well-established antiplatelet agent that works by permanently inactivating cyclooxygenase enzymes. Research indicates a complex interaction between aspirin use and omega-3 fatty acid levels in the body. The relationship between omega-3 levels and cardiovascular disease risk may vary depending on whether a person is taking aspirin, potentially showing a "U-shaped" interactive effect where aspirin's efficacy may depend on the concentration of omega-3 fatty acids in the blood. Regarding safety, one study suggests that the combination of low-dose aspirin and omega-3 fatty acids does not significantly increase the risk of upper gastrointestinal complications compared to aspirin alone.
