Omegatex is a pharmaceutical-grade omega-3 fatty acid formulation developed by Solutex GC, consisting primarily of docosahexaenoic acid ethyl ester (DHA-EE) and eicosapentaenoic acid ethyl ester (EPA-EE). The specific formulation investigated for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), known as SCD-Omegatex, is delivered as an enteric-coated soft gelatin capsule designed to improve gastrointestinal tolerability and minimize fishy aftertaste. The drug targets the inflammatory and vascular pathophysiology of SCD by modulating cell membrane fatty acid composition and reducing the production of pro-inflammatory mediators. Although it reached Phase I/II clinical testing (NCT02947100), the trial was terminated early due to manufacturing issues. The Omegatex trademark also encompasses a broader range of omega-3 products intended for metabolic, cardiovascular, and inflammatory conditions.
