Overview
This is a **combination drug comprised of omega-3-acid ethyl esters (mainly eicosapentaenoic acid [EPA] and docosahexaenoic acid [DHA]) and a statin (typically atorvastatin).** It is used for the treatment of **combined hyperlipidemia** and dyslipidemia, targeting elevated triglycerides and non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non–HDL-C). - **Omega-3-acid ethyl esters** work mainly by suppressing hepatic lipogenesis and promoting fatty acid oxidation, thereby lowering triglycerides. - **Statins** (such as atorvastatin) inhibit HMG-CoA reductase to reduce cholesterol synthesis, resulting in reduced LDL cholesterol. Clinical studies demonstrate synergistic effects, with greater reduction in triglycerides, non–HDL-C, total cholesterol, VLDL cholesterol, and increased HDL-C, compared to statins alone[1][2][3][4].
