**Omega-3-acid triglycerides** is a pharmacopeial, chemically heterogeneous fish-oil-derived lipid mixture consisting predominantly of glycerol triesters of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, principally eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid, with smaller monoester and diester fractions. It is distinct from omega-3-acid ethyl esters, omega-3 carboxylic acids, and icosapent ethyl. Pharmaceutical-grade omega-3-acid triglycerides can be used as an active ingredient in parenteral nutrition lipid formulations to provide long-chain omega-3 fatty acids when enteral administration is not feasible. Its biological effects reflect delivery of EPA and DHA, which can reduce hepatic triglyceride-rich lipoprotein production and influence fatty-acid oxidation and inflammatory lipid-mediator pathways. The broad clinical-trial excerpts referring only to \"omega-3\" supplements cannot be assumed to have used this exact triglyceride-form material.
