Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Omega-3 Fatty Acid Ethyl Ester 90 Soft Capsules is a pharmaceutical-grade omega-3 fatty acid formulation developed and marketed by Jiangsu Wangao Pharmaceuticals in China. The product contains a high concentration (at least 90%) of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) ethyl ester and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) ethyl ester derived from fish oil. It is indicated for the treatment of hypertriglyceridemia and the promotion of cardiovascular health. The mechanism of action involves the reduction of hepatic triglyceride synthesis, likely through the inhibition of acyl-CoA:1,2-diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT) and the activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-alpha), which enhances fatty acid oxidation. This leads to decreased secretion of very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and a subsequent reduction in plasma triglyceride levels.
