Omega-3 fatty acids, specifically long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), were investigated by the **Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning (PILL)** in the **NAYAB study**. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluated the efficacy of omega-3 supplementation, either alone or in combination with minocycline, as an adjunctive treatment to prevent the transition to psychotic disorders in individuals identified with **At-Risk Mental States (ARMS)**. The rationale for use in psychosis involves the modulation of neuronal membrane fluidity, neuroprotection, and anti-inflammatory effects. However, the NAYAB trial results indicated that omega-3 supplementation did not reduce the rate of transition to psychosis at 12 months and suggested a potential slight increase in risk, although some benefits were observed regarding mood and positive symptoms in participants who did not transition to a full psychotic disorder.
