Drug intelligence / Profile preview
omega-3 fatty acids + monacolin K is a combination pharmaceutical product developed by Mogon Pharmaceuticals for the management of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia. The formulation utilizes a liquid improved/modified oral release capsule technology to deliver a synergistic blend of two natural active ingredients. Monacolin K, a natural HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor derived from red yeast rice (and chemically identical to lovastatin), works to decrease LDL cholesterol levels by inhibiting the rate-limiting step of cholesterol biosynthesis. Omega-3 fatty acids, typically including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), function as agonists of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-alpha), which leads to a reduction in triglyceride levels and an increase in HDL cholesterol. This dual-action approach is designed to provide a comprehensive lipid-modifying effect, addressing both cholesterol and triglyceride imbalances through a single oral dosage form.
