Omega-3 fatty acids + raloxifene is a combination therapy that has been investigated for breast cancer prevention. Raloxifene is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that reduces the incidence of estrogen receptor positive breast cancer by binding to estrogen receptors. Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), may potentiate the antitumor effects of antiestrogens by inhibiting multiple proliferative and antiapoptotic pathways that interact with estrogen receptor signaling[2][8]. Clinical trials have shown that this combination is well-tolerated with excellent compliance. The combination may be superior to individual treatments in reducing triglycerides and LDL cholesterol while increasing HDL cholesterol[4]. Additionally, the combination allows for the use of lower doses of raloxifene (30mg instead of the standard 60mg), potentially reducing side effects while maintaining efficacy[2][8].
