Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination intravenous lipid emulsion containing omega-3 fatty acids derived from fish oil and polyunsaturated fatty acids from soybean oil. It is primarily used as a source of calories and essential fatty acids for patients requiring parenteral nutrition who cannot obtain adequate fat intake orally or enterally. The formulation provides both energy (calories) and essential substrates for cellular function, membrane structure, hormone synthesis, and other physiological processes. Omega-3 fatty acids in the preparation include eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which have anti-inflammatory properties. Soybean oil supplies mainly omega-6 polyunsaturated fats such as linoleic acid[1][5]. This combination supports normal body functions in patients with compromised nutritional status.
