Omega-3 lipid emulsion is an intravenous nutritional and therapeutic intervention being studied by Fujian Medical University for the prevention of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) in patients receiving allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). The emulsion, derived from fish oil, contains high concentrations of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), specifically eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These fatty acids are hypothesized to modulate the immune system by reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and altering T-cell activation and metabolic pathways, thereby mitigating the cytokine storm associated with aGVHD. In clinical trials, it is administered as part of parenteral nutrition starting from the conditioning regimen through the early post-transplant period.
