Overview
Omega DUROS is an investigational implantable DUROS osmotic drug delivery system designed to provide continuous subcutaneous administration of omega interferon for chronic hepatitis C. The nonbiodegradable DUROS device uses an osmotic engine to draw in body water and expel a concentrated omega interferon formulation at an approximately zero-order rate for up to 90 days, aiming to maintain stable systemic interferon levels and potentially improve antiviral efficacy and tolerability versus intermittent injections. Omega DUROS was explored in early-phase clinical studies in patients with chronic hepatitis C who had relapsed after prior therapy, as part of broader development of DUROS technology for sustained delivery of peptides and proteins.
