Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Omegaflex Special is a multi-chamber emulsion for intravenous infusion used in parenteral nutrition. It is specifically indicated for adult patients in states of moderate to severe catabolism when oral or enteral nutrition is impossible, insufficient, or contraindicated. The product is designed as a three-chamber bag system: one chamber contains an amino acid solution with electrolytes, the second contains a glucose solution, and the third contains a lipid emulsion. The lipid component is a blend of omega-3-acid triglycerides (derived from fish oil), soybean oil (providing omega-6 fatty acids), and medium-chain triglycerides (MCT). This formulation provides a balanced supply of energy, essential fatty acids, and nitrogen to support metabolic needs and protein synthesis. In clinical research, it is being evaluated for its potential to support liver function recovery in critically ill patients suffering from parenteral nutrition-associated liver impairment, leveraging the anti-inflammatory properties of its omega-3 content.
