Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Omegaven + Structolipid is a parenteral nutrition combination consisting of a 10% fish oil emulsion (Omegaven) and a 20% structured triglyceride emulsion (Structolipid). This combination is administered intravenously to provide essential fatty acids, particularly omega-3 fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). In clinical research conducted by Huazhong University of Science and Technology, this regimen was evaluated for its efficacy in improving postoperative recovery, reducing systemic inflammation, and enhancing liver function in cirrhotic patients with liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) undergoing hepatectomy. The omega-3 fatty acids in the formulation act as agonists for G protein-coupled receptor 120 (GPR120) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs), which helps to suppress pro-inflammatory cytokine production and promote metabolic stability.
