Overview

Omeprazole + amoxicillin + rifabutin is a fixed-dose oral combination medication used for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection in adults. The combination consists of three agents: - Omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), which reduces gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells. - Amoxicillin, a penicillin-class antibacterial that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins. - Rifabutin, a rifamycin-class antibacterial that inhibits bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase. This combination is indicated specifically for H. pylori eradication to reduce the risk of peptic ulcer disease and its complications. It is marketed under the brand name Talicia and was approved in the United States in 2019[1][3][4][5].
