The PPI components function by irreversibly inhibiting the gastric H+/K+-ATPase (proton pump) on the parietal cells of the stomach, thereby suppressing the final step of gastric acid secretion. Ranitidine acts as a competitive antagonist at the histamine H2 receptors on the parietal cells, reducing acid production through a distinct pathway. This multi-drug approach was investigated for the treatment of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR)-related hoarseness and dysphonia, comparing its efficacy against voice therapy.
